I Like Winter Weather, As Long As I Don't Have to Get Out In It

I will miss the winter weather when we move to Kuwait.  It is sleeting for the third time at my house this year. I live an hour from Houston. I can't believe this. While I love the snuggling in front of the fire place with my computer, I hate feeding the horses and other animals in the cold, the ice, and the mud.

The cold weather also makes me miss my husband Randy. When we were going to military balls, I remember one where we were at the command in Chicago, and attending General Anson's celebration ball upon his receiving his first star.  Brigade business kept my husband at the unit up til the time we had to leave for the ball, so I had dressed in the unit lady's room.  That wasn't particularly desirable, but I was always a good Army wife, and it didn't ruffle my feathers the least bit.

We arrived at the front of the hotel where the event was being held, and I was as dressed up as I get... long formal... long white fur coat, the whole deal... Like the "eight grade boy trapped in a man's body" that he is, we get out to allow the valet parking and my husband began throwing snowballs at me... he was in his "dress mess," I was in my long WHITE coat... long formal with a "fan tail," which I was holding up with my right hand to keep it out of the snow.  For a bright man... sometimes... he runs with scissors. Ladies, that is just one of the reasons we love a man in uniform, isn't it?

Sometimes I just love being out in the winter weather...

My Life Philosophy

Why I Blog

All my computer skills are self taught... and there is a learning curve for me...  I have BDDTPP... (Brain Damage Due to Peroxide Poisoning,) and when I began blogging I didn't even know what blogging was.  My husband's deployment to the Middle East with the United States Army for two years, and then his transfer of service to the State Department for the last three fueled my need to blog.  I thought to myself when I started, "it is so much cheaper than therapy sort of a personal journal out loud."  I love it!  I have gained friends all around the world, people who are really important to me, and I am important to them... Who'd a thought!  Don't have a huge audience, but it has grown, and I never needed a huge audience.  "Communication, whether written, spoken, signed, or presented in the art forms is the essence of the human existence."  Debra LeCompte

Did I mention I love my little miniature goat named Rocket?  She has been a comfort to me in the long absences of my husband.  I will miss her when I move to Kuwait, but she will be here when we return home, waiting for us.  She loves my husband so, she butts heads with him for fun... Literally, he plays a game with her where they butt heads together...  He says it is good training for his job with the State Department.  You will love this little video where I tried to find an animal to share her pen for companionship.  Her Emily Post was a little shaky on the subject of entertaining bunnies....

Now where else would I have a place to voice such thoughts other than in my own little blog about my life adventure of moving to Kuwait with my husband as he serves with the United States Department of State?

Kuwait is Writing Upon My Heart

In Dreams To Me Kuwait is Singing

Far away and across the great ocean, there sits perfectly a place gleaming,
And from this  land where I have never been, comes to my heart her singing.

For so long every night, as I lie upon my bed in sleep, I begin dreaming.
And from this land where I have never been, comes to my heart her singing.

Always the visions rise first in my mind of her waters glistening and teaming.
And from this  land where I have never been, comes to my heart her singing.

Azure waves of the Gulf softly kiss her beaches, which in the sun lie beaming
And from this land where I have never been, comes to my heart her singing.

Far away and across the great ocean, there sits perfectly a place gleaming,
And from this  land where I have never been, comes to my heart her singing.

Poetry Came to Me From the Middle East

One of the things which has come from my role as the wife of a Soldier during war, has been the need to express all of the emotions and realizations that have come with my experiences during my husband's deployments.  I have always lived a very sheltered life, conscious of course that there were people suffering in the world, places where the freedoms and liberties I have enjoyed without earning them in any way, do not exist. I have remained untouched by these realities in my own life.  Being an American solely by the hand of Providence, I had never been personally required to make any sacrifices to protect and defend the precious privilege of the freedom of pursuit of my own destiny which is the heritage of every American, until my husband went to war.  Even then, I myself experienced no fear for my own life, or any fear of sustaining grave injury.  Never have I had to fear speaking my mind, or calling upon my government for fair and just treatment.  As I became acquainted through social media with people from different areas of the Middle East, our dialogue concerning the state of their lives changed me forever.  I found myself humbled by their courage and determination to facilitate the destiny of the ancient lands where they by Providence too were born.  I saw many images and photos of beautiful places, stark deserts, carnage, sorrow, grief and pain.  I saw too beautiful and intelligent faces, filled with joy, earnestness, honor, and courage.

Poetry began to flow from my heart in my efforts to process the realizations that came to my mind from the conversations, news, and images I encountered.  The poem below came to me after I read an article about several young Afghan women who were part of the Afghan Army, and training to be pilots.  There faces were so beautiful, their courage and determination so exposed in their countenances, and as I thought of all their commitment meant, words welled up inside of me. This is one of my favorite of the poems I have written.
