More of Restaurant Delphi

Even before you are in the restaurant proper the artwork begins filling the walls!

You can see the beautiful vineyards across the street and across the Rhine.

Every inch of the restaurant is so perfectly appointed!

But then who is that beautiful woman in costume in the corner???

It was so delightful to see the beautiful couple who came in dressed
in costume from the Medieval Event they had attended.

By now I am certain you need the web site address of the restaurant so that you may make your reservations, and find the exact address of this exquisite place to eat in beautiful Bingen!

You can find Delphi's at Vorstadt 74, Bingen/Rhein 55411

Wait.... now who is that peeking around the corner?

Of course I brought Barbie!

The Beauty of Bingen Germany

I like that the word Bingen is Celtic, and means "hole in the rock."  Bingen am Main is situated on the magnificent Rhine River, in the  Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.  One of the things, Bingen is known for is the story about the Mouse Castle or Tower where supposedly a  Bishop of Mainz named Hatto, was eaten by mice, but that is a story for another day, and more pictures.  We have plans to visit the "Mouse Castle" soon.

Indeed there are castles everywhere around Bingen in all states of repair!

We were not in Bingen to visit castles on Saturday.  We were going out to eat with our friend Tracy, and her boys, Christian and Alexander.  She took us to a Greek restaurant called Restaurant Delphi, and it was a delight!

Even the walk from the parking lot was very special!

The inside is even more beautifully appointed, and look at the presentation of the food!

So keep watching for more of the captivating restaurant tomorrow!

The Views From the Top Were Breath Taking!

When we went to the top of the cathedral in Cologne, Germany the views were breath taking!

I loved being able to see the Rhine from the top, and the trains coming in below us as well.

The bells in the tower give perspective to just how high we were.

Ludwig Picked a Breath Taking Site For His Castle

We first noticed the elevations begin to change as we drove toward Ludwig's castle.
We began to see mountains in the distance...

The closer we got the more rugged the mountains became!

Then in the distance we first saw the castle...

When we arrived on the mountain and the views were spectacular looking down to the valley below!

Ludwig's Sad Story and Beautiful Castles

Ludwig II of Barvaria was a dreamer, and he also had a deep desire to know God, but he sought knowledge of God from the wrong sources.  He died a sad death, never finding the faith and assurance he was looking for.

Ludwig became King of Barvaria at the young age of 18, and he himself described himself as unprepared for being king.  He talked of not even being through with his education when he had to assume the responsibilities of the throne.  When the Bavarians sided with Austria in a war against Prussia, their defeated alliance resulted in Bavaria becoming a part of the German Empire.  Ludwig became a King in name only.

Ludwig withdrew from most of the state affairs of Bavaria, and instead he persuaded life as an eccentric patron of the arts and architecture.  He also loved the legends of Bavaria, and even viewed them as based in reality.  Known as the Swan King, because of his fascination with the legion of a knight in shining armor who rescues a beautiful princess after the death of her father from Count Telramund.  Elsa, the beautiful princess is the choice of her dying father of the next to rule over the kingdom, and all of the king's knights promise to be true to Elsa and her father's wishes for her, except that Count Telramund declares he is to marry Elsa, and to become King instead.

When the heroic Knight Lohengrin arrives to save the day in the legend, he is pulled in a boat drawn by a silver swan.  There is more to the story, but I will save it for the next post.  Instead I will show you the beauty which surrounds the castle which Ludwig built to honor this legend.

At first as the sun rose on our trip the clouds hung low and prevented our seeing the road ahead.

Then the clouds began to clear and the countryside opened before us!

The mountains began to appear in the background!

There was only one hope of me making the final leg of the journey to see Ludwig's "new swan castle," and that was with the help of this means of transportation.  That is because his beautiful castle sits high on the side of a mountain in the most beautiful countryside you have ever seen!

Our own driver was a character, and had a lot to say on the slow ride up the mountain!  Eventually we were left to walk the final leg up the mountain to the castle.

The views from the mountain upon which the castle is built are breath taking!

Finally we reached the top, and got our first views of this magnificent structure whose structure began in 1869 which is known as Schloss Neuschwanstein, "New Swan-on-the Rock Castle!"

More of the beauty of this beautiful castle in the mountains of Germany,
and the story of King Ludwig II will follow, so come back soon!

On My Doll Blog, I Have a New Activity

I call it where in Germany are Debra's Life Size Barbies...

I brought a lot of my Barbie collection to Germany to share with the little girls here in Germany, Military families, and families from the State Department.  I have started taking them to all the places we visit and photographing them.  It is great fun, and seems very popular with those who visit that blog.  Here is a little sample of that fun project!

The Barbies make wonderful ambassadors with the children who delight in them on the buses and trains, and everywhere that we visit.

As I Promised More Pictures From Cafe Maldaner

The windows at the front of the coffee house are filled with interesting things.

This beautiful mirrored wall with its' mill work is another
area of the restaurant that I find so charming.

In every detail there is style and beautiful design elements.

Another Great Personality From The Cafe Maldaner

What a gorgeous and sophisticated woman she is!

I first saw her in the reflection of the mirror behind the collection of coffee grinders.

Then there she was...

My Thoughts on Angela Merkel

What a woman of character, honor, strength, and courage Angela Merkel is.  I believe that her recent actions concerning the refugees pouring into Europe have done more to win the war on terror than any politician, any diplomatic policy, or any military action from the Coalition in the last two decades.  Her stance in the dealings with Greece, and her leadership in all that I have observed, have so impressed me.

I Have Personaly Felt Compelled To Do All I Can

I have personally felt such compassion for the sea of humanity seeking refugee status here in Germany, and I am making efforts to do all that I can in this cause.  Germany is leading the way in one of the most challenging crises of our times. I made a request through the CG of the American Consulate in Frankfurt, Mr. Jim Herman, and he inquired through officials channels for a list of needed items, and returned this information for all who wish to assist Germany in this most difficult undertaking.  These initial needs pertain to children, and are the ones dearest to my own heart.  I will publish further details with additional organization contact information which will help you get involved in solutions with the outreach programs that are leading the efforts in the Frankfurt area tomorrow.  There lies a long road ahead...

Items needed for women with small children would be:
-          Baby bottles
-          Baby clothes (NB – 2/3T US size – German size 50-104)
-          Sterilizers
-          Cribs
-          Toys (no plush) that can be easily disinfected if not new in box
-          Strollers and push chairs
For the older children the following items are helpful:
-          Water dispenser
-          Radios (please make sure they have a German plug)
-          Badminton rackets
-          Soccer balls
-          Bicycles and bicycle locks
-          Swim trunks
-          Shoes
Should you want to make a specific donation in this category, please email info@frankfurt-hilft.de and leave your name and phone number. You will receive a call back.

Not Only Was Cafe Maldaner Beautiful, the People Were So Interesting

I thought this lovely couple looked something like Randy and I will in about 20 years or so!
They were sitting at the table next to us, and I enjoyed watching them interact.

This was a  lovely waitress working in Cafe Maldaner, she was perfect in her role!

The wait staff all looked exactly as they should for the Cafe Maldaner!

The two large mannikins in the front window are famous too...

Of course there are the cats upstairs who are having coffee and desserts...

Anybody not appreciating the fare will want to go just to see and be seen with the patrons!
